Grilling is super fun, but one of the less desirable parts of grilling is keeping your precious grill and smoker clean! We have the Camp Chef Pellet Grill and Smoker, which we LOVE, but it definitely gets dirty fast! Today we’ll show you how to clean a pellet grill and smoker the easiest way possible! This should only take you under an hour and you’ll start to see those glistening grill grates coming to life again! Let’s jump into this easy weekend project! Below is what we started with…YUCK!
How to Clean a Pellet Grill and Smoker
What you are going to need before you start cleaning a Camp Chef Smoker.
- Old Wash Rag
- Disposable gloves
- Roll of paper towels
- Shop Vac
- Trash bag
- Grill Cleaning solution (My go to is the Citrusafe BBQ Grill Cleaner)
- Grill Brush
- Putty Knife (trust me you will need this)
- Water Hose
- Foil
STEP ONE.
Open the grill and scrape your grates with your grill brush to remove all of the residue. Remove your grill grates and put them aside.
STEP TWO.
Now remove your Grease Pan, which is at the bottom of your Camp Chef. Grab your putty knife and a trash can (I put my grease pan on the outdoor trash can so that I don’t have to hold it). Now scrape the debris off of the grease pan. The reason for this is to prevent a grill fire or Camp Chef Pellet Grill problems. If you have not cleaned your grill in some time you might have to take your putty knife and scrape up the grease that has accumulated over that time.
STEP THREE.
Once you have removed bottom grill grate and grease pan, you will notice wood dust from all of the pellets. Take your Shop Vac and suck the wood dust up.
STEP FOUR.
Now that you have that cleaned up, go over to your grill grates and liberally spray your cleaning solution all over them. Let it sit for approximately one minute, allowing the solution to penetrate the grease. Grab your roll of paper towels and scrub the grates until the grease is cleaned off.
STEP FIVE.
After all of the grates and grease pan is cleaned, I take a water hose and hose them off. Now it is time to put your Camp Chef back together.
STEP SIX.
Put your grease pan back in first but before you do I recommend putting foil around it to maintain all of the grease from accumulating on the pan. Now put your grill grates in. After that is finished use your old wash rag wet it down with warm water and start wiping down the outside of your grill. Once that is all wiped off you are finished!
How often to clean a pellet grill?
That is a great question! This usually fluctuates as to how often you use your pellet grill/smoker. I usually like to clean my grill after about 6 or 7 times using it. This way it isn’t as hard to clean. The more you use your pellet grill/smoker while not cleaning it, the harder it is going to be to clean. I have 3 grill/smokers and can honestly say that my camp chef was the easiest pellet grill to clean.
Where to buy camp chef pellet grill?
This is such a fun question especially if you are in the market to buying one but my go to places to purchase a Camp Chef Pellet Grill would be
- Amazon
- Home Depot
- Kohls
- Bass Pro Shops
